As an obese person, maybe a persobeseon or obeseon, I like that obeseon sounds a bit Dr Who... As an Obeseon I often over stuff my brain with the latest writings, findings, thoughts, trials, fads, fashions call it what you want, that are trying to stem the obesity epidemic ease the pressure on the NHS and generally show us Obeseons how to fix ourselves. This month I have fallen hook line and sinker for Zoe Harcomes diet. Her theory's on addiction and craving really rang a bell with me, in particular the jumping in the car at midnight looking for a bag of Salt & Vinegar Kettle Chips (like a good Obeseon I don't keep junk food snacks in the house) a trip reminiscent of an alcoholic hunting his cider #Al_Anon
Basically to start the diet Phase one lasts 5 days and you can only eat unprocessed meat, fish, tofu, eggs, vegetables (not spuds) Natural Live Yoghurt and no bread, pasta, rice, caffeine or dairy. Today is day 4 and I'm not jumping around with boundless energy but I have lost a pound a day (a tiny drop in the ocean believe me) in fact all I needed to achieve today is to wash the kitchen floor and I struggled to find motivation to scramble an egg for breakfast, by lunchtime I caved and made a beautiful cup of real coffee with skimmed milk within minutes I found the impetus to not only wash the kitchen floor but also cleaned a bathroom and the porch.
Its tempting to fall into despair (after the caffeine rush has worn off) and start looking for the next big idea but I'm not doing that I'm going to carry on choosing no carbs and enjoy the clean kitchen. It could have been so much worse... it could have been the demon Kettle chips.
